PURPOSE:   To perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP.

 

LOCATION:  Gulfport CDC, Child Development Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi.

 

AREA OF CONSIDERATION:  NAF employees of CBC Gulfport and other Navy and Marine Corps activities and through the voluntary application file.  Vacancies may be filled by methods other than promotions when the best qualified person can be obtained from other sources.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

*** SCHEDULE WILL BE VARIED DUE TO EXTENDED HOURS OF OPERATION FROM 0500-1830. ***

Prepare all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruit sauces, and gravies for menus. Prepare, cook, season, and portion food for all meals by following standardized recipes at different levels of difficulty. Plan, regulate, and schedule cooking procedures so that numerous completed food products are ready at the appropriate temperature and time. Prepare menu items using special or difficult recipes that require numerous interrelated steps, many ingredients, and lengthy preparation time. Prepare a variety of menu items using several different and complex methods of preparation such as cool or chill. Modify recipes for ingredient quantities, the number of servings, and the size of the equipment available. May clean serving carts, food preparation areas, cupboards, drawers, and dishwashing areas; set up and operate a mechanical dishwasher; performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks through the food service and related areas; wash floors and walls with powered cleaning equipment. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner, adhering to all local policies and procedures. Responsible for complying with security, fire, and sanitation rules, policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensures compliance with U.S. Agriculture (USDA), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and all pertaining standards, policies, and regulations. Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Must be 18 years of age.   High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Position requires successful completion of National Agency background screening and issuance of a CAC card. Must obtain and maintain a valid food handlers card. Must have knowledge and understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures. Must have thorough knowledge of the full range of food preparation principles including the techniques and procedures necessary to develop new or revise current recipes and to prepare and cook food in large quantities. Must have working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent contamination. Must have the skill to overcome practical production problems, evaluate final food products, and initiate corrective action when an item does not meet established quality standards. Must have the skill to manage various cooking processes so that food items are served at their peak taste, texture, and appearance with minimum holding periods and so that safe and critical temperature and time control points are met. Must have the ability to coordinate a full range of food preparation activities involving quantity food production where a number of items are cooked simultaneously and require varied cooking methods, timing requirements, many ingredients, and numerous interrelated steps. Must have knowledge of simple food handling techniques, e.g. washing hands before cleaning vegetables, not touching rims of cups, etc.  Must have the ability to work safely by moving carts without hitting things, stacking dishes without mishaps, wiping spilled food or liquid to prevent falls.  Ability to operate dishwasher.  May be required to unload supplies and place in proper storage area.  Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.  Must be able to obtain a Health Card.  Must have the ability to get along with others.  Must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Position requires repeated lifting and working in a warm environment.

 

SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: The time period of eligibility for spousal preference begins 30 days before the military member's reporting date at a new duty station outside of the current duty station's commuting area and applies without time restriction except that spouses seeking preference with less than six months’ time remaining in the area may be non-selected. Spousal Preference forms are located in the lobby at the MWR Admin. Bldg. 352.  You MUST attach spouse’s orders. You MUST be referenced (family) on the orders.
