PURPOSE:  TO RECRUIT TEAM PLAYERS WHO ENJOY WORKING WITH PEOPLE AND WHO HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

LOCATION:  The Grill, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department; Naval Construction Battalion Center; Gulfport, Mississippi.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Prepare food items, such as, but not limited to, sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and salads.  Utilizes a deep fryer, oven, flat grill and other common commercial kitchen equipment.  Will ensure adequate supplies on hand, and prepped to meet daily needs.  Will keep facility clean to include:  tables, chairs, floors, and restrooms.  Unload supply trucks, placing supplies in proper storage.  May deliver supplies from storerooms or refrigerators, as required.  May operate a cash register and make associated reports, Daily Activity Record (DAR’s).  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  HOURS OF OPERATION FOR THE GRILL ARE 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM, M-F Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be 18 years or older. Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.  Must possess and maintain ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on routine basis.  Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with others.  Must possess working knowledge of the methods and procedures relating to food preparation and skill to apply knowledge to cook full range of simple foods.  Must have the ability to read and understand written food service material (e.g., food labels, standardized recipes, computerized food production sheets, metric conversion tables, and basic work instructions).  Must have knowledge of various tables of weights and measures.  Must be able to follow recipes and combine ingredients to produce menu items.  Must have knowledge of how to regulate cooking temperatures and steam pressures and of how to check for correct cooking time and conditions of food being cooked.  Must have knowledge of characteristics of the various foods responsible for cooking (e.g., colors, flavors, consistencies, textures, temperatures, and cooking times).  Must have knowledge of infection and spoilage control procedures.  Must have the ability to clean, maintain, and use equipment.  Must have knowledge of safety and sanitation standards and cleaning.  This position requires knowledge of inventory procedures.  Must possess or be able to obtain a Health Card issued by the Department of the Navy.  Must be able to get along with others.  Must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.  Must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. This position is subject to completion of a satisfactory background or National Agency Check (NAC) in accordance with CNIC policy.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE:  Qualifying veterans must submit a copy of their DD-214 with their application for employment.

SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: The time period of eligibility for spousal preference begins 30 days before the military member's reporting date at a new duty station outside of the current duty station's commuting area and applies without time restriction except that spouses seeking preference with less than six months’ time remaining in the area may be non-selected. Spousal Preference forms are located in the lobby at the MWR Admin. Bldg. 352.
