PURPOSE: This position is located at the Unaccompanied Housing operation at NCBC Gulfport MS. The purpose of this position is to provide adequate and timely custodial services to the housing operation.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Ensures security of all guests is maintained at all times.
  • Ensures guest privacy is maintained at all times.
  • Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with guests; answering guest questions concerning hotel facilities; and provide information about local attractions. Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management as necessary.
  • Performs custodial duties as required inside and outside of buildings including but not limited to, trash/garbage removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, washing walls/ windows, and sanitizing bathrooms/kitchens.
  • Cleans all lobbies, passageways, stairwells, laundry rooms, public restrooms, and other common use areas in and around buildings
  • Loads, unloads, and relocates heavy, bulky items such as furniture, supplies, and linen (clean and dirty) by hand or using carts, dollies, hand trucks, golf carts, or similar lifting/carrying devices. Performs deep cleaning as required. Deep cleaning may include defrosting refrigerators and freezers, cleaning windows (interior and exterior), replacing and/or cleaning drapes/curtains, moving furniture, and cleaning normally hidden areas, carpet cleaning (shampoo and/or spot treatment), cleaning walls/woodwork, and other such tasks.
  • Deep cleaning may require the use of pressure washers, steam cleaners, floor buffers, and carpet cleaning machines.
  • Assists management with the facility's inventory control program.

REQUIREMENTS:  CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must satisfactorily complete all background checks.

  • Required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must be able to up to 45 pounds is required.

A qualified candidate possesses the following:

FACTOR 1. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English both verbally and in writing with management, staff, and guests.

FACTOR 2. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The incumbent performs duties under the direct supervision of the leader/supervisor who assigns work, approves leave, and evaluates performance of the incumbent. The leader/supervisor makes selected continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, the limitation, quantity, and the priority or deadline of assigned work tasks. Recurring assignments are carried out independently without specific instructions. Situations involving unfamiliar problems not covered by instructions are referred to the supervisor for resolution. Work assignments (completed and in-progress) are spot-checked on a daily basis via documented inspection reports to assure that work practices, techniques, records, and other functions are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions.

FACTOR 3. GUIDELINES
The incumbent works under normal supervision. Incumbent is expected to perform daily work on own initiative and carry out assignments in accordance with DOD and Navy regulations. The Leader/supervisor will provide suggestions for handling unusual situations.

FACTOR 4. COMPLEXITY
The operation conducts business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Customer service is of the foremost importance in this position. Custodial workers may work various shifts. The incumbent, over a period of time, may be required to work each shift and must be trained to accomplish a variety of tasks.

FACTOR 5. SCOPE AND EFFECT
The purpose of the work is to provide custodial services. The work directly contributes to the military member's quality of life, mission readiness, and contributes to job satisfaction and retention of valuable members.

FACTOR 6. CONTACTS
Contacts include regional staff, all department heads, lodging staff, and tenant commands, especially those tenant commands with personnel residing in the berthing facilities. Some contact with contractors, vendors, and representatives of private industry.

FACTOR 7. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Contacts are made to coordinate and/or obtain information relating to the custodial services of the operation.

FACTOR 8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds is required. Assisted lifting, moving and carrying up to 100 pounds may be required. May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders.

FACTOR 9. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some duties require exposure to outdoors, resulting in exposure to weather conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors, and skin/eye irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in household cleaners. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and must be used.

This position does not have a positive education requirement.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
