LOCATION:  Child Development Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Assists the School Age Care (SAC) coordinator in planning, programming and implementing recreational education and athletic activities for youth ages 5 – 12 years, maintains supplies and equipment needed to support the SAC programs.  Assists the SAC Coordinator with retail accountability and cash handling for youth activities concession operation.  Assists with the Summer Camp Program.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Must be at least 18 years of age.  COMPLETION OF HIGH SCHOOL OR EQUIVALENT IS REQUIRED.  A COPY OF DIPLOMA OR GED SHOULD ACCOMPANY YOUR APPLICATION. 

Must possess the ability to complete required training modules, e.g. CPR, First Aid, child abuse prevention and basics including discipline techniques and nutrition.  Should have a good general knowledge of young children and youth both behavioral and physical.  Must have the ability to work with groups of children and have the temperament necessary to deal with children in an appropriate manner.  Must have the ability to handle cash, operate a cash register and accurately fill out the daily activity report. Must be able to understand and carry out either verbal or written instructions and communicate same to others.  Must be able to stand, walk, bend and kneel and be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  Duties may also require movement of equipment and tables and general cleaning of the area. Must possess a valid driver's license.  Must be able to successfully pass a drug screening.

 

To be considered for the CYP-02:

Applicant must have completed all military training modules and 12 months experience working with children and youth OR Current CDA or MSA OR 2 Year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development or related field of study. A COPY APPLICABLE EDUCATION VERIFICATION MUST ACCOMPANY YOUR APPLICATION.

 

This position is subject to completion of a satisfactory background or National Agency Check (NAC) in accordance with CNI policy.

 

VETERAN’S PREFERENCE:  Qualifying veterans must submit a copy of their DD-214 with their application for employment.

 

SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: The time period of eligibility for spousal preference begins 30 days before the military member's reporting date at a new duty station outside of the current duty station's commuting area and applies without time restriction except that spouses seeking preference with less than six months’ time remaining in the area may be non-selected.
