LOCATION:  STENNIS - Child Development Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

*** MUST BE ABLE TO WORK VARIED SHIFTS FROM 0500 – 1900 ***

Assists in implementing and leading planned activities for program participants. Uses prepared curriculum. Incorporates special instructions provided by parents such as special dietary needs, physical needs, or other information that may affect the child or youth's experience in the program. Cares for children and youth with special needs as directed by the supervisor.  Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.  Help arrange for and/or serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.  Help prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules.  Help create adult-made games and play materials (mixing paint and play dough and assembling props for dramatic plays, activities, etc.). Assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the supervisor.  Provide care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with the Department of Defense (DoD), NAF Component, and local installation policies, guidance, and standards.

Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years.  Ensures children depart with authorized person according to written parental instructions.  Supervise children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities and on field trips, outings, and special events.  Responsible for the cleanliness of all equipment and spaces in the Center.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Must be at least 18 years of age.  COMPLETION OF HIGH SCHOOL OR EQUIVALENT IS REQUIRED.  A COPY OF DIPLOMA OR GED MUST ACCOMPANY YOUR APPLICATION OR AN INTERVIEW WILL NOT BE GRANTED.

Must possess the ability to complete required training modules, e.g. CPR, First Aid, child abuse prevention and basics including discipline techniques and nutrition.  Two years experience working with young children is desired.  Must possess the ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and must successfully pass the required security and health checks. Must possess a valid driver's license.  Must be able to successfully pass a drug screening.

 

To be considered for the CYP-02:

Applicant must have completed all military training modules and 12 months experience working with children and youth OR Current CDA or MSA OR 2 Year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development or related field of study. A COPY APPLICABLE EDUCATION VERIFICATION MUST ACCOMPANY YOUR APPLICATION.

 

This position is subject to completion of a satisfactory background or National Agency Check (NAC) in accordance with CNI policy.

 

VETERAN’S PREFERENCE:  Qualifying veterans must submit a copy of their DD-214 with their application for employment.

 

SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: The time period of eligibility for spousal preference begins 30 days before the military member's reporting date at a new duty station outside of the current duty station's commuting area and applies without time restriction except that spouses seeking preference with less than six months’ time remaining in the area may be non-selected. Spousal Preference forms are located in the lobby at the MWR Admin. Bldg. 352.  You MUST attach spouse’s orders. You MUST be referenced (family) on the orders.
