PURPOSE: TO RECRUIT EMPLOYEES WHO ARE TEAM PLAYERS, WHO HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND WHO ENJOY WORKING WITH PEOPLE.
LOCATION: Fitness Division, Morale Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Enforces safety and sanitary regulations. Rescues swimmers in trouble and promptly administers first aid as needed. Maintains cleanliness of pool, pool decks, showers toilet facilities, and locker rooms. Periodically checks for chlorine and alkaline content. Alerts supervisor as to problems with pool equipment of chemical levels.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Lifeguard and CPR Certification Not Required, but preferred. Must be able to carry out verbal and written instructions and intelligently convey the same to others. Must possess the ability to exercise good judgment in emergency situations. This position is subject to completion of a satisfactory background or National Agency Check (NAC) in accordance with CNI policy.
All applicants who are NOT currently certified must successfully complete a swim test during selection process. Upon selection, the applicants will complete week long American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and CPR Certification processes on-site. Applicants will be required to sign a letter for Condition of Employment to work 2 summers or one full calendar year. Those who fail to meet the Condition of Employment will be responsible to reimburse MWR $200.00.
APPLICANTS FOR THIS POSITION MUST PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR CURRENT LIFEGUARD TRAINING CERTIFICATION AND CPR CERTIFICATION (IF CURRENTLY CERTIFIED) WITH THEIR APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT.
VETERAN’S PREFERENCE: Qualifying veterans must submit a copy of their DD-214 with their application for employment.
SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: The time period of eligibility for spousal preference begins 30 days before the military member's reporting date at a new duty station outside of the current duty station's commuting area and applies without time restriction except that spouses seeking preference with less than six months’ time remaining in the area may be non-selected. Spousal Preference forms are located in the lobby at the MWR Admin. Bldg. 352. You MUST attach spouse’s orders. You MUST be referenced (family) on the orders.
